THREE MORE DEAD FROM THE BALOCHISTAN FLOODS, TALLY REACHES 263

QUETTA: According to ARY News, three more persons have died in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of people killed by the torrential rains and flash floods in Balochistan to 263.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reports that 263 persons have died overall in Balochistan as a result of severe rainfall and flash floods. 125 men, 59 women, and 79 children were among those who died, while 166 people were hurt.

A total of 64,385 homes were destroyed by the excessive rains, including 18,410 complete collapses and 45,975 partial damages. According to the PDMA assessment, the floodwaters washed away and killed close to 500,000 animals.

On September 2, the Balochistan government postponed a polio campaign in the province once more due to flooding and torrential rains, which have killed people, destroyed infrastructure, and forced millions of people to flee their homes.

The immunisation programme was scheduled to begin in the province on September 5 but has since been delayed a second time due to heavy monsoon rain and flooding, according to the provincial health department.

"The revised date for the drive will be revealed soon," it said. In the province, the polio drive was already postponed on August 29.

It is important to note that on August 22, the Ministry of Health began a week-long nationwide anti-polio programme.
