KARACHI POLICE WILL BEGIN CRACKDOWNS ON STREET CRIME




 KARACHI: According to ARY News on Friday, the city's police force has decided to start a crackdown on street offenders.


An significant meeting of senior police personnel, presided over by Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Karachi Javed Alam Odho, took place and the decision was made.


All of the zonal deputy inspector generals (DIGs) and senior superintendents of police (SSPs) in Karachi received orders from the city's police chief to move quickly to reduce street crime.


According to AIG Karachi Odho, every effort would be made to protect civilians from street criminals, and operations against the offenders will move forward quickly.


In order to combat criminal activity, the Karachi police force will also create specialised vigilance units at the district level.


Crime rate in Karachi

After 350 people were killed in crime-related incidents during the first eight months of this year, the citizens of Karachi are still at the mercy of criminals, according to a report from the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee, which was cited by ARY News (CPLC).


According to the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee's (CPLC) report, from January 2022 to August 2022, there was an increase in the number of criminal incidences in Karachi.


Over the course of the past eight months of this year, there have been several crime situations that resulted in the deaths of 350 individuals and the injuries of nearly 270 more.


In various regions of the city, mugging attempts resulted in the deaths of 59 people, including one more death on Tuesday (today).


Eight local residents have reportedly died in the last five days as a result of thwarting robbery attempts. During 32,000 motorcycles were taken or stolen within the aforementioned time frame, and 1,300 cars were also taken or stolen over the course of the previous eight months.


Additionally, the CPLC data reveals that between January 2022 and August 2022, over 17,000 mobile phones were stolen in the city. Three instances of extortion were reported during the time period, while a total of seven kidnappings for ransom were documented.
