FAISALABAD: According to ARY News, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah was called by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on September 7 for breaking the code of conduct during by-elections in Faisalabad.
According to the ECP, allegations of Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah's visit to the NA-108 constituency, where a by-election is being held, have been received along with visual proof.
According to the ECP notification, "You are expected to make your written statement in person or by an authorised agent before the district monitoring officer on September 7 to explain as to why your case be not commenced under the legislation."
According to the ECP code of conduct, public office holders such as the president, prime minister, chairman/deputy chairman of the senate, speaker/deputy speaker of an assembly, federal ministers, state ministers, governors, chief ministers, provincial ministers, advisers to the prime minister and the chief minister, mayor/chairman/Nazim, and their deputies are prohibited from campaigning in by-elections.
Abid Sher Ali, a candidate for the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) in the NA-108 by-election, was previously given a warning for breaking the electoral code of conduct by the election authority.
Abid Sher Ali was given a warning by the district returning officer for allegedly coordinating statements on mosques' reductions in electricity bills. According to the ECP notice, Abid broke electoral code of conduct paragraph 42.
It should be kept in mind that Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, would face off against Abid Sher Ali, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, in the NA-108 Faisalabad by-elections (PML-N).
