Three Karachi Constituencies' by-vote elections may be postponed.




 KARACHI: According to ARY News, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has called a crucial meeting for tomorrow (Tuesday) to reach a decision on by-elections in three Karachi constituencies slated for September 25.


The meeting to examine the overall flood situation in Sindh and the staging of by-elections in the provincial capital will be presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, according to reports.


According to them, the report on the availability of poll workers will also be discussed at the meeting.


It is important to note that Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, has declared he will run in three by-elections from Karachi.


On September 25, voting will take place in the districts NA-237 Malir, NA-239 Korangi Karachi, and NA-246 Karachi South.


As previously announced by the ECP, the by-election for nine National Assembly seats will take place on the 25th of the next month. The lower house seats became vacant after the PTI MNAs' resignations were authorised.


The following NA-22 Mardan, NA-24 Charsadda, NA-31 Peshawar, NA-45 Kurram, NA-108 Faislabad, NA-118 Nankana Sahib, NA-237 Malir, NA-239 Korangi Karachi, and NA-246 Karachi South constituencies have by-elections scheduled.


Furthermore, in all districts where an election schedule has been announced, the ECP has prohibited the transfer and posting of any officers.


Floods cause devastation in Sindh


According to the National Disaster Management Authority, record monsoon rains and melting glaciers in Pakistan's northern mountains have caused floods that have killed more than 1,300 people since June 14. (NDMA).


Since June, unprecedented floods have submerged about a third of the nation.


The 50 million-person Sindh province was hardest hit, receiving 464% more rain than the 30-year normal.
